Minister of Economic Affairs, Wang Mei-Hua: Taiwan to Strengthen AI Software Development and Achieve "Surpassing Korea, Catching Up with New Trends."

The 2024 Taiwan Innovation Technology Expo grandly opened on October 17, attracting the attention of tech industries both domestically and internationally. In his opening speech, Minister of Economic Affairs Wang Mei-hua emphasized that Taiwan is ranked number one globally in AI hardware. However, Taiwan ranks 26th in AI software, while neighboring countries such as Singapore and South Korea hold the third and sixth positions, respectively. This has prompted Taiwan to actively promote the development of AI-related smart technologies. The government will support the transformation of research and development outcomes into practical applications through relevant policies.

Minister Wang also highlighted that future focus will be placed on innovative application areas such as military, green energy, and health. The goal is to achieve the "surpassing Korea, catching up with Singapore" target within four years. He stressed that the future will not only focus on "Made in Taiwan" products, but also on "Created in Taiwan" systems and solutions. Taiwan will strive to build a "Smart Island," developing autonomous and controllable AI technologies, while establishing cloud databases, computing centers, and supercomputers to further advance the development of AI systems and innovative applications.

These efforts aim not only to enhance Taiwan's competitiveness but also to create greater social value in the global tech field and provide better services to global demands. As innovation projects progress, Taiwan's AI technology will deepen, positioning Taiwan as a key hub for global innovative technologies.
